HSPA Evolution – Boosting the performance of mobile broadband access

چکیده
Today, 84% of all reported global cellular subscribers make calls via radio access technology specifi ed by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). This signifi es that WCDMA is the predominant thirdgeneration (3G) radio network technology, and as such, represents a substantial economy of scale. In addition, the recent introduction of high-speed packet access (HSPA, 3GPP Release 6) has signifi cantly improved the performance of packet data traffi c in Ericsson products – on the downlink (HSDPA) 14Mbps, and uplink (E-UL), 1.4Mbps, giving users a mobile broadband experience that is on par with ADSL; and given rise to large increases in packet data traffi c – packet data is now the principal type of traffi c in 3G networks. •

Roughly eight years have passed since the first commercial deployment of 3G mobile communication based on the WCDMA radio-access technology developed by 3GPP∗. Since then, the 3GPP radio-access technologies have gone through several steps of evolution and improvements, further boosting their capabilities in terms of the services that can be provided as well as the basic system performance. In p...

There are several technologies for providing broadband services over wireless and cellular networks. The fundamental one in the evolution from 3G to 4G is probably the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSPA) technology. There are many works in the literature tackling the problem of HSPA performance and capacity. Most of the developed techniques involving HSPA capacity are related to the system...

The rapid evolution of wireless networking technologies has opened up new possibilities for wireless delivery of multimedia services and content. In addition to the standardization efforts of 3GPP and 3GPP2 on third generation mobile networks, new broadband wireless access technologies such as WLANs, WiMAX, Flash-OFDM, and DVB-H are emerging as alternative means to provide services to mobile us...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Lte and Wimax Network as per Use Cases
The novel wireless network architecture forces a demanding performance requirement on the radio resource to provide broadband internet access. The Communication industry has been preparing new standards to efficiently transport high speed broadband mobile access in a solitary air interface and network architecture at little cost to operators and end users. Two standards, IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) and...

The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...
